Laundry Room Makeover

Do you ever get inspired by those cute posts or videos? You know the ones, “make over your room in a weekend for less than $300” or “weekend projects on a budget.” Yeah, this isn’t one of those.

It all started in quarantine, (I think a lot of us could start a story that way now) so many folks were doing little house projects and the laundry room seemed an easy, inexpensive little project so I make plans and hubby makes it come to life….er, well, that’s what is supposed to happen.

As you see from the picture we had a front load washer and an old standard dryer because of the dryer we had planned a simple narrow shelf to go over the back of the units. I was thinking something to allow access to operate the dryer as well as keep items from falling behind the washing machine-had planned, y’all caught that, right. When we unplugged and moved the dryer something happened, we plugged it back in and nothing, it wouldn’t work. Remember when I said old, I meant it, nearly 25 years old so hubby tinkered with it and got it working and then it quit again. OK, new dryer it is then. (Blew that $300 thing right from the get-go.) Soooo we order a dryer, start cleaning out the mess and I try to get hubby to see my vision.

When we had to get a new dryer that necessitated a rethink on the shelving situation. What you should know is that I’ve always wanted a counter top style cover for my washer/dryer and guess what new style dryer means Momma gets a counter top! WooHoo!! Now to try to get Hubby to see the NEW vision. HaHa!!

June 17th, new dryer is delivered. Hey,fun fact dryers don't come with cords you have to order those separately. Hubby makes a quick stop at Lowe's on the way home. I can't wait to get this bad boy going, I've been hanging clothes out on a make shift clothes line on my back porch. Hubby gets home with cord in hand and bing bang boom the new dryer is ready to roll, or is it? I got no heat, spin yes, heat no. Dear Hubby checks the outlet and sure enough we aren't firing on all cylinders, one of the outlet ports has no power- another trip to Lowe's tomorrow.
-Can you see a theme of difficulties here?
-Also, it should be noted that the closest Lowe's is 35 minutes away and no this post is not sponsored. LOL!

Walls painted, shelving installed, dryer hooked up and working, still shopping for a new light fixture. We head out to Lowe’s AGAIN to get a counter top and standing in the lumber aisle I try to explain vision yet again. The vision is for the counter top to look like a table. The current problem is that table legs long enough to fit the height of the washer/dryer are not easy to find and once I found some they were $$$. We ended up with spindles but wait they aren’t long enough either and I’m on the hunt again. I finally find furniture feet to add to the spindles and we have a winner! More importantly Hubby finally sees the vision!! We find a light and finally I get to make it pretty.

Well friends here is the finished product, on July 19th. HaHa, so much for a weekend project. I just love my new laundry room now I just have to find a space for the all the odds & ends that are not cute enough for the new space.

Until next time friends, make the best of your happiMESS!
